What is Vinyl?
Vinyl is short for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and is a hard plastic in its original form. Plasticizers (phthalates) are often used to make this plastic malleable. These make the vinyl stretchy, soft and supple. However, there is a risk that these substances can be released from the glove, e.g. on contact with oil or grease. Vinyl gloves are therefore only suitable for working with non-greasy and non-oily foods in order to avoid contamination.
