Relevant standards for high-visibility clothing
High-visibility clothing is categorised into three visibility classes in accordance with the EN ISO 20471 standard, which differ in the amount of fluorescent material and reflective strips used. The classes are designed to correspond to different risk levels and working conditions.
- Klasse 1 – Class 1 - Low visibility
Class 1 is intended for activities where the risk of low visibility is classified as relatively low. This garment is suitable for work in safe, confined areas where vehicles or machinery operate at low speed. Class 1 garments must have at least 0.14 m² of fluorescent material and 0.10 m² of reflective material. - Klasse 2 – Class 2 - Medium visibility
Class 2 offers higher visibility than Class 1 and is designed for situations where good visibility is important but not yet the highest requirements. This often concerns work near roads, on construction sites or in areas where vehicles and equipment are moved at medium speed. Class 2 garments require at least 0.50 m² of fluorescent material and 0.13 m² of reflective material. - Klasse 3 – Class 3 - Highest visibility
