What is TPE?
TPE is a plastic and stands for thermoplastic elastomers. TPE is a newly developed material that has only been on the market for around 10 years. The main ingredient for TPE production is rubber - mostly synthetic, i.e. artificially produced rubber. This is combined with the functionality of a plastic to obtain silicone-like qualities. TPE is odorless, free of plasticizers (phthalates) and silicone-free. It is also elastic, UV-resistant and hard-wearing thanks to its strength. TPE is versatile for hygiene and disposable garments. It can be processed into very inexpensive disposable gloves or used as an additional coating for more durability, e.g. as a sole for disposable overshoes.
