No! Both terms are often lumped together, but strictly speaking there is a difference. The term "biodegradable" in general, after all, almost any material can be degraded at some point. Biodegradable materials are decomposed over time by bacteria and other organisms. However, the conditions under which this extraction takes place are not defined.
Completely different with compostable products. They must meet strict guidelines and are therefore one step ahead of the "normal" biodegradable products in terms of environmental protection.

Compostable products always consist of organic materials, the natural decomposition of which produces proper compost. In order for organic waste to become compost, the environmental conditions must be right. This includes sufficient water and oxygen as well as the right temperature. The European standard EN 13432 as well as the American standard ASTM D6400 specify exactly in which time frame a complete decomposition of the raw materials must have taken place. For example, 90% of the material must be degraded after 6 months. Very important: compostable materials do not leave any hazardous residues and are therefore particularly environmentally friendly.

Wood is a low-cost, renewable raw material, environmentally friendly and biodegradable. It is a popular material in many areas of daily life. Since birch wood can be used untreated and does not need to be bleached, it is a pure and absolutely tasteless raw material
During production, we expressly refrain from rainforest clearing. Whether toothpicks, roulade skewers, wooden forks or plate papers, all NATUREStar products are food-safe and therefore approved for direct contact with dry, moist and greasy foods.
Thanks to a special surface treatment, the wood is stable and smooth, splintering is prevented, so that skewers and cutlery can be used as disposable cutlery without hesitation. Our "to-go" cups for hot drinks are made of environmentally friendly cardboard and coated with PLA (corn starch) on the inside, as well as fully compostable. They meet all requirements of the European standard EN 13432 for guaranteed compostability. Here, after 80 days of professional composting, more than 90% of the material is completely biodegradable. After six months, even the smallest particles (less than 2 mm) are completely metabolized.
